John Kay Singer Songwriter Steppenwolf - 19 April 2019
John Kay (born Joachim Fritz Krauledat, 12 April 1944) is a German-Canadian rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist known as the frontman of Steppenwolf.
Kay joined a blues rock and folk music group known as The Sparrows in 1965, which had moderate success in Canada before moving to California, augmenting its line-up and changing its name to Steppenwolf in 1967. With music that pioneered hard rock and heavy metal, Kay's Steppenwolf had international success with songs such as "Born to Be Wild", "Magic Carpet Ride", "Monster", "The Pusher", and "Rock Me".
Kay recorded both as a solo artist and with Steppenwolf during the late 1970s, and wrapped up Steppenwolf's 40th year of touring with what was to be a final gig in October 2007. However, Kay and Steppenwolf appeared on 24 July 2010 at the three-day HullabaLOU music festival in Louisville, Kentucky.

Breakfats with Steppenwolf... - 12 May 2007
Last night, my wife and I saw John Kay and Steppenwolf and I made friends with a member of one of the opening acts. I first asked for his autograph being the first to ask him. Steppenwolf rocked for a band of 40 years. Anyway, after the show, we went to a Huddle House resturant for breakfast. We had just sat down and ordered when Ron Hurst, drummer of Steppenwolf, came in with their manager to eat. I visited with him for a bit getting his autograph. He said to tell Eric Singer, of KISS, hi when I wrote him, being good friends with each other. I plan on dropping the hell out of his name... LOL! Scan of ticket tomorrow... stay tuned. |

Breakfast with Steppenwolf - 11 May 2007
Well, actually, it was with the drummer, Ron Hurst, and we were the next table over. My wife and I saw Steppenwolf last night and we went to a Huddle House for breakfast (1 am) and right as our order was taken, Mr Ron Hurst walked in with a few roadies. I'm friends with one of the bands that opened for them last night (thats how I got the tickets. I never pay retail... LOL) and we all hung out until about 4 am just B.S.ing. I got him to sign our tickets. I would have a scan, but my comp crashed hard the other night and I haven't recovered yet. One more for my drummer collection. I told him I was writing to Eric Singer again and he told me Mr. Singer is now playing with Alice Cooper and for me to tell him "hi" and that he told Eric to sign a stick for me. Hopefully it'll work. I'll keep everyone posted.
