Mary McEvoy (Glenroe) Success! - 02 September 2013
Mary McEvoy is a much celebrated Irish actress, active in stage, screen and television for over 40 years. She is best remembered for her role as Bridget 'Biddy' Byrne in the long running Irish soap opera, Glenroe, which ran between 1983 and 2001. The character of Biddy, her husband Miley and their two children were one of Irish TV's most popular families. As the popularity of the show soared, Biddy and Miley became the true 'golden couple' of Irish TV drama. Their wedding in 1986 gave Glenroe it's biggest ratings success. In 2000, unhappy with some of the situations affecting the cast, McEvoy left the show. As a result, Biddy was killed off, with the character dying in a car accident.
In addition to her Glenroe role, McEvoy was also the star of a series of TV adverts for Surf detergent. She is still active as an actress today.
