Irish President Michael D. Higgins Success - 25 mai 2013 Michael D. Higgins is the current President of the Republic Of Ireland. A former government minister, one of his greatest achievements was in 1996, when, during his stint as Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht, he opened the Irish language TV station TnaG - now known as TG4.
In November 2011, he was elected the 10th president of Ireland and was the first man to hold the office of president since 1990. He is currently living at Aras An Uachtaran and will be residing there until 2018, or depending on when he stays for a second term, 2025. He is a native of Galway and is also a keen poet.
